Addressing & Street Naming

Addressing & Street Naming

The Douglas County Addressing and Street Naming Manual establishes criteria and review processes for the creation of new street names and addresses.  The intent of the Manual is to guide staff, developers, and the public, to support emergency response agencies, and to promote public safety.  Douglas County serves as the single, responsible entity for the review and creation of new street names and addresses.

Contact Douglas County Addressing at 303-660-7411 or DCAddressing@douglas.co.us for additional guidance.

Address Request Application

Address requests may be submitted to DCAddressing@douglas.co.us.  Submit the completed Address Request Application and include a conceptual exhibit.  The exhibit must show:  1) the property boundaries; 2) the location of the structure or utility to be addressed; and 3) the driveway or access alignment. Requests for new or revised unit numbering must also include a floor plan with proposed unit numbers shown.  Proposed addresses released by this office are subject to review and changes as necessary for 911 dispatch and life safety purposes.  Addresses are finalized and recorded in the Douglas County address database following all necessary approvals.

Proposing Street Names

Proposed new street names are subject to review and approval prior to their placement on subdivision plats.  A list of street names in the Douglas County address database can be accessed through the DougCo HubUse the street name list to review proposed street names prior to submitting street names for evaluation.  All street names in the Douglas County database have already been considered and should not be proposed again. They are designated as an existing, reserved or denied street name.  Street names that are not already in the Douglas County database may be submitted to DCAddressing@douglas.co.us for evaluation.  See page 10 of the Douglas County Addressing and Street Naming Manual, items 7.2.a. through 7.2.n., for specific criteria.

Suffix Rules

Suffixes are determined upon evaluation of the street alignment and in accordance with rules recommended by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). See page 12 of the Douglas County Addressing and Street Naming Manual, items 7.3.a. through 7.3.j., for specific criteria.
