Lincoln Avenue pavement maintenance to provide drivers with smoother travels

You have places to go and when you head out you want your trip to go as smoothly as possible. Roads — and their maintenance — are a necessity of modern life.

Thanks to work that is underway and expected to be complete in early October, drivers who travel to and from Parker on frequently traveled Lincoln Avenue between First Street and Chambers Avenue will notice a much smoother ride.

If you expect to travel this route, please check the project web page for any updates to the expected schedule and consider using alternate routes.

Contractors have recently completed the first step of the resurfacing process, roto milling the lanes in this one-mile stretch of Lincoln Avenue. The second phase, placing the 2.5-inch asphalt overlay, will begin on Friday, Sept. 24 with work occurring from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. We appreciate your patience with the needed lane closures and expected short delays during the next phase of construction.

This portion of road is expected to last 15-20 years before it needs another major resurfacing thanks to the use of a long-lasting asphalt pavement called Stone Matrix Asphalt, or SMA.

This type of durable asphalt reduces road noise and road spray during wet weather and  is used for major roads — for example, the I-25 Gap project — to extend pavement life.

This is just one mile of the over 1,100 miles of roads that Douglas County is responsible for maintaining throughout the County. To keep you moving, in 2021, Douglas County’s Pavement Management Program will invest more than $11 million to overlay nearly 104,000 tons of asphalt throughout the County.
