County Debt

Douglas County’s debt was paid off completely in September 2022.

One of Douglas County’s guiding principles is to cash fund capital projects versus incurring debt.  By doing so the County minimizes interest paid so taxpayer’s money goes to the project, not interest payments.  Cash funding of projects requires the County to accumulate the necessary money, in many cases over multiple years. This results in higher levels of fund balance until the project is completed.
