Older Adults

The Older Adult Initiative (Initiative) was launched by the Board of County Commissioners in response to the growing population of individuals aged 60 and older living in Douglas County.  The Initiative aims to ensure that resources are available to meet the needs of older adults in our community.

Community feedback was gathered through regional events, surveys, and Town Hall meetings, where Douglas County residents and their caregivers shared their needs for aging well.  Based on this input, the Older Adult Initiative Executive Committee identified four priority areas, along with corresponding objectives, to address residents’ needs:  Transportation, Housing, In-Home Services, and Access to Information and Resources.

The Board of County Commissioners have allocated one-time funds to address service gaps and increase services that create an age-friendly county.  Douglas County is seeking proposals for innovative projects that will support positive aging for older adults in our communities.
