In celebration of National Trails Day, Douglas County will host a grand opening for the newest segment of the Colorado Front Range Trail (CFRT).  Join us at Larkspur Community Park Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to noon, for the official opening, live music, an ice cream social and trail exploration.

With the addition of the Douglas County Open Space section between the Columbine Open Space trailhead and Greenland Open Space trailhead, adventurers are 8.5 miles closer to the possibility of a Front Range hiking journey from Wyoming to New Mexico.

The CFRT offers exceptional recreation opportunities along Colorado’s urban corridor and this segment completes 56 contiguous miles of trail that currently ends south of Colorado Springs in Fountain.  The County partnered with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, Mile High Youth Corps and the Town of Larkspur to establish portions of this trail from Columbine Open Space to the El Paso County border.

We look forward to seeing you on National Trails Day.  The new trail is open for hiking, biking and horseback riding and on-leash dogs are welcome.  Live music from Dry Creek Bluegrass Band and the ice cream social will begin at 10 a.m.
