Apply for 2021 Philip S. Miller Grants by March 5

Funds support at-risk and underserved County residents

Douglas County is accepting grant applications for 2021 Philip S. Miller funds through March 5, 2021. The funds, received by the County annually, since the establishment of the Philip S. Miller Trust in 1980, are distributed to enhance the quality of life for Douglas County residents.

The County is grateful to have awarded nearly $8 million in community grant funds to 80 organizations in the 40 years since becoming one of just nine beneficiaries of the Trust.

Thanks to Mr. Miller’s generous spirit and forethought, the vital programs funded through the Trust cast a wide safety net throughout the County by delivering programs and services such as suicide prevention, medical assistance, mental health, emergency assistance and support for seniors and school-age children.

“We thank and honor Philip S. Miller and his wife Jessie, who dedicated so much of their lives to helping others in Douglas County, by building upon their legacy of philanthropy.” said Commissioner and Vice Chair, Abe Laydon. “The extraordinary recipient organizations play a crucial role in providing services that bring an increased quality of life to our more vulnerable individuals and families, including seniors.”

To qualify, applicants must be a 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 tax-exempt organization, serve residents of Douglas County and provide a service that aids health and human services that support at-risk children, vulnerable adults and other underserved populations.

In 2020, a total of $190,000 in grant funding was awarded to 28 nonprofit programs that help to serve the most vulnerable populations in Douglas County.
