If you live in northwest Douglas County, you’ll want to know that progress on your alternative to Titan Road continues in full force, with construction expected to be completed later this year. But first, a full closure of Moore Road is necessary.
On March 1, 2022, crews will close Moore Road between Waterton Road and Denver RV to safely reconstruct the roadway and intersection. Detours will be in place. The road is expected to reopen before Memorial Day weekend in May.
Construction on this second – and final – phase of the Waterton Road extension project began in September 2021. This 2.5-mile extension, from Rampart Range Road to Moore Road, will complete the connection to US Highway 85. Phase 1 of the project, the construction of a 2.8-mile, two-lane roadway between Airport Road and Moore Road, was completed in August 2020.
The County’s 2040 Transportation Master Plan identifies the need for this project to give those in Roxborough Village, Chatfield Farms, Roxborough Downs, River Canyon and Sterling Ranch an alternative to Titan Road for access to US 85.
This project was accelerated thanks to an August 2020 partnership agreement between Douglas County and Sterling Ranch that maximized cost efficiencies and reduced the time needed to complete the extension. The Sterling Ranch CAB and Sterling Ranch Development Company are contributing the full anticipated construction costs of $16.1 million with Douglas County providing construction management for the project.
The Waterton Road Phase-2 extension is expected to be complete in the fall of 2022.
