The Douglas County Health Department is committed to providing continuity of public health services for county residents as our new health department grows and begins to provide services on its own. We have contracted with Tri-County Health Department to continue providing many public health services through the end of 2022. As we take over various services, we will update the information below. All services will be transitioned to DCHD by the end of December 2022.

Report animal bites and food-borne illness
Infectious/contagious diseases can be spread in a variety of ways: from person to person, through contact with animals, or through eating contaminated food and water. This includes serious diseases such as E. coli, Salmonella, hepatitis A, meningitis, and whooping cough/pertussis

Communicable disease control involves the investigation and mitigation of infectious diseases within the community. These diseases can be spread in a variety of ways: from person to person, through contact with animals, or through eating contaminated food and water. This includes serious diseases such as E. coli, Salmonella, and hepatitis A. Certain infectious diseases are required by law to be reported.
Schools and Childcare
Suspected outbreaks of any disease in any setting must be reported to public health immediately.
The Douglas County Health Department’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Division (EPR) works with many local, regional, and state partners to plan and prepare for public health emergencies. EPR staff focus on planning, training, and exercising the response to public health emergencies like pandemics, bioterrorism events, and natural disasters.

Douglas County Health Department has two Nurse Home Visit Programs to help support families with children in Douglas County.
Certified birth and death certificates are available from the Douglas County Health Department. These are legal documents printed on forgery-resistant safety paper with watermarks, raised engraving, background security patterns, and a unique certificate identification number.
